Gavorrano is situated about 270 metres above sea level over the bay of Follonica in the heart of the Maremma region. Surrounded by the hills of the Colline Metallifere, the little town has its own, pleasant climate.
The Etruscans who inhabited this region several hundred years before the Romans, always built their settlements on hills. On one of these hills, the small town of Gavorrano grew continuously over the centuries of the Middle Ages.
The number of inhabitants of the old town is about 900, and reaches 8.135 together with the surrounding districts. The aspect of the town is dominated by the sigth of many, partly beautifully restorated houses and towers.
